When Bond’s Beretta 418 caught in his holster on one mission, it was decided that he should switch guns to the Walther PPK chambered in 7.65mm Browning (.32 ACP). The PPK was introduced in the 20’s in Germany and was the smaller version of the Walther PP line of automatics, aimed at undercover police work. It’s a fairly standard blow-back operated double-action semi-automatic with a single-stacked magazine. It holds seven rounds in the magazine. It is also available in .380 ACP with a six-round magazine.

9mm vs. 38 Special: The Cartridges & the Guns

The J-frame Model 638 is smaller and lighter than the all-steel K-frame 3" Model 64. Weighing less and with usually smaller stocks felt recoil is greater than with the heavier/larger revolver even if the same ammunition or load is being used. One is easier to hide, has shorter sight radius, and has greater felt recoil. The other is slightly harder to conceal, larger, weighs more, but is almost always easier for most people to shoot well. Its felt recoil is not usually objectionable even though it will normally produce higher velocities than the 1 7/8"

9mm usp hand gun

Suffice it to say, I’ll stick to the .22 for a while. (The 9mm has an incredible amount of kick to it compared to the light nothing of the .22) I did pretty poorly with the 9mm as I wasn’t able to handle the recoil very well, my shots end up all over the target, and the gun completely unsteadied me.

End game, however, is that I’m pretty hooked. Looking back at the experience, it was really, really enjoyable. I’m going to go back and try a rifle (they have a ruger 10/22) and see how that goes.

Springfield Armory's family of XD pistols just keeps growing. The group is based upon a polymer-frame, striker-fired pistol and has been offered in 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 SIG, and .45 GAP. Now the .45 ACP is being chambered in the auto pistol.

The XD guns are available in three different barrel lengths: the 3.1-inch barrel is called the Sub-Compact, the 4-inch barrel is the Service Model, and the 5-inch gun is the Tactical Model.
